5 reasons why cheap hosting sucks
Cheap hosting does not always suck, but unfortunately in most of my experience it does. There’re tons of reasons why a cheap hosting is not recommended for serious webmaster and here are couple of the common ones:
Crammed servers
Normally we will see cheap hosting packages wrapped up into an ‘all-in-one’ package where customers get unlimited resources (site bandwidth and storage) in a very low price. As an expected result, the servers get rushed with too many websites and eventually causing poor server response time and frequent server down time.
Email Issues
Spammers love cheap hosting. By sharing your web hosting with spammers, high chances that your web host is blacklisted and thus causing your email activities. A simple solution for this is to purchase a dedicated IP but that would cost you extra.
Bad Neighborhood in shared hosting
Putting your website on a shared hosting is like living in a public place where you have no control on who’s living next door. With little control over websites hosted on the same server, virus injections to other websites or a buggy scripts may cause serious damage on the server and eventually hurting your website.
Unclear TOS
Well not all, but many companies that offer cheap hosting services are working under unclear TOS. There might be funny regulations or hidden costs which you might not be aware. The hosting company might be offering you unlimited bandwidth and disk storage (for marketing attractions) but leaving you little memory capacity. If dealing with a cheap host is a must, then be very sure that you understand the TOS inside out before dealing with a cheap hosting.
Bad Support
The biggest dilemma of cheap web hosting companies is that due to huge user base, the response time is poor. The tickets are mostly replied after long hours, and in case if the communication over ticket is not effective it may take days. Other than this their hold time is quite long, and this really sucks.
Conclusion: Why Cheap Hosting Sucks?
Let’s be practical, cheap hosting companies are in the business to make money. It is in fact not their fault offering lousy hosting services. The point is if you are paying cheap, you get cheap stuffs - that’s all. On the other hand, it doesn’t mean that an expensive hosting will not suck. Thus, it is very important for hosting shoppers to research in detail before going blindly after a web host, examine their site, understand TOS, talk to them and clear things before any deal - who knows you might find a cheap hosting that does not suck!
